Excelsior Edge Holmwood to Retain Schoolgirl Football Title

Defending champions Excelsior High had to dig deep to retain their crown, edging Holmwood Technical High 1-0 in a tense and tightly contested Schoolgirl Football final.

A second-half penalty calmly converted by Destiny Powell in the 49th minute proved to be the difference in a match that balanced tactical discipline with moments of high drama. Holmwood executed a near-perfect counterattacking strategy, creating several clear-cut chances but failing to convert. Their goalkeeper, Brihana Staple, showed great form, frustrating Excelsior’s attacking efforts with a series of impressive saves.
Though Excelsior was the more aggressive side, pushing forward in search of goals, they were often met by a resilient Holmwood backline and keeper. The match remained cagey throughout, but entertaining, as both sides brought intensity and flashes of brilliance.
In the end, Powell’s composure from the spot sealed a hard-fought win for Excelsior, who now celebrate back-to-back titles.
